Creating Effective Communications
Are you frequently being misunderstood? Do you want to improve your communication skills?
Communication plays such a large part in our daily lives and is defined as, ‘the process of passing information from one person to another.’
But how do you communicate with people as clearly as possible and express exactly what you want to express?
Our latest suite of courses has everything you need to know about creating clear communications, the importance of the tone of voice, as well as the words themselves. Communication is not just what you say, or what you write. Non-verbal communication is also a huge factor, such as tone of voice, body language, or facial expressions.
For communication to be effective, it should be planned & prepared for, you should be aware of how to adapt to audiences, clarify messages, and establish tone. Mastering grammar, vocabulary and word choices for formality is crucial, as well as the ability to recognise the impact of contractions in informal writing. For example, it may be acceptable to use contractions for informal writing, such as a newspaper article, or blog, but less so in formal writing, such as a company communication to its customer base.
Accuracy, brevity, and clarity are often described as the three most important aspects of effective communication. You can lower the chance of being misinterpreted and cultivate empathy and personal tone with simple communication models such as the ABC model of effective communication, or PIMMS.
The courses in this learning pathway will also help you understand the key elements of formal writing style, including sentence structure, thoroughness, and the organisation of main points. They will also help you recognise the differences between formal and informal writing styles, including emotions, punctuation, contractions, and abbreviations.
You will also learn to develop effective communication strategies by considering the intended audience, purpose, and potential reach of written content while exercising caution to avoid offence or reputational damage.
